Passion Meets Purpose: Meet Dralla Foundation’s Newest Board Members

6 February 2025

Becky Piper, Dr. Meaghan Cusack, and Akeem Kearse bring unique experiences and a passion for advocacy, offering invaluable insight to the foundation’s mission of creating unforgettable days for people with physical challenges.

Becky Piper has spent over a decade empowering others with disabilities to “Get Back UP.” A survivor of a life-changing attack that left her paralyzed on her right side, Becky has turned her challenges into inspiration, helping others embrace their abilities. She is excited to contribute her lived experience to Dralla’s grant selection process. “So many friends, family, and even complete strangers have helped me in my journey—I'm excited to finally be able to be the person that helps people!”

Dr. Meaghan Cusack, Psy.D., brings a wealth of expertise as an above-knee amputee and adaptive sports enthusiast. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma at age 10, Meaghan has overcome extraordinary challenges, becoming a competitive adaptive climber and a passionate advocate for mental health and physical empowerment. Her journey and insights will enrich the Review Board’s efforts. “My participation in adaptive sports and the support I have received from organizations helped me to gain a sense of confidence in an area of my life I had never felt—even before becoming disabled. I am excited about the opportunity to give back to an organization that provides this same feeling to other people.”

Akeem Kearse has defied expectations as a lower-limb double amputee, transforming challenges into opportunities as an accomplished hand cyclist and rock climber. In his professional life, Akeem serves as a Case Coordinator, using his compassion and problem-solving skills to help others navigate complex challenges. “I look forward to joining the Dralla Foundation board to help support more individuals with disabilities and see to it that they’re provided access to physical activities. A disability does not have to mean physical activities have to be a distant idea—it just requires a different approach!”

The Review Board plays a crucial role in determining the grants Dralla awards each year, helping to make unforgettable days possible for individuals with physical challenges. Becky, Meaghan, and Akeem’s inspiring stories and dedication will strengthen the foundation’s impact and mission.
